Summary

Wolfram, creator of Mathematica, Wolfram|Alpha and the Wolfram Language, is seeking a highly motivated and skilled DevOps Engineer to join its Web Product Engineering department. The ideal candidate is someone with skills in software engineering who has extensive experience with the automation of application deployment and managing CI/CD cycles as well as containers and who is also interested in working on back end APIs. This person would also be someone who uses and understands clusterization software and advanced operations of Cloud management and who stays current with the latest web technologies and techniques to discover new ways to improve applications.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement build, deployment, and configuration management
  • Build and be responsible for the CI/CD pipeline
  • Provide technical guidance and educate team members and coworkers on development and operations
  • Document and design various processes; update existing processes
  • Improve infrastructure development and application development
  • Help investigate and fix bugs

Requirements

  • 3 years previous experience in DevOps
  • 2 years previous experience as a software engineer, preferably experience with Java
  • Extensive experience working with a major cloud provider like AWS, Azure or Google Cloud
  • Experience with Linux infrastructures, CI/CD tools and scripting languages
  • Experience working with deployment and orchestration technologies, such as Docker, Kubernetes, Chef, Salt, Ansible, Jenkins, Git or Vagrant
  • Knowledge of web server technologies like Apache or NGINX
  • Experience supporting security audits
  • Understanding of core networking, DNS, TCP/IP, routing, HAProxy and load balancing
  • Ability to collaborate with multiple departments
  • Ability to solve most problems independently
  • Experience administering Unix/Linux servers
  • Experience supporting the production environments
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, maths, physics, or a related technical or quantitative field

Responsibilities

  • Participate in defining and implementing technical direction of assigned projects.
  • Perform or review system analysis, design, programming, testing, debugging and documentation for assigned projects.
  • Lead or participate in process improvement.
  • Participate on project teams for assigned system projects; analyzes improvements and new applications and develops requirements and specifications with team.
  • Investigate replacing current systems with new systems and analyzes the adaptability of current operations.
  • Help develop specification, program and documentation standards.
  • Maintain functional operation of assigned production systems.
  • Coordinate support for new development.
  • Act as a key contributor on projects. Drives a project, from a technical standpoint and independently resolves issues.
  • Make significant contributions to the success of projects by applying demonstrated knowledge.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent number of years of experience.
  • Experience with Linux client-side and server-side technologies for modern MVC web development (HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, Django, Python, and REST).
  • Prior AWS Experience Required (EC2-VPC and EC2 Classic, RDS, S3, VPC, SQS, ELB, IAM, ElasticSearch)Infrastructure cloud services such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, or OpenStack.
  • Platform cloud services such as Docker, CloudFoundry, or OpenShift.
  • DevOps automation tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef, PowerShell DSC, etc.).
  • Data analytics tools and frameworks such as Hadoop, Spark, R, etc.
  • Advanced knowledge of application, data and infrastructure architecture disciplines.
  • Understanding of architecture and design across all systems
  • Working proficiency in developmental toolsets
  • Ability to collaborate with high-performing teams and individuals throughout the firm to accomplish common goals
  • Proficiency in one or more general purpose programming languages Java, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ReactJS/AngularJS preferred), Spring, Hibernate, MQ, Java Multithreading, Security and Performance and Apache+Tomcat
  • Experience with micro services design and implementation, REST APIs
  • Must have strong analysis (both requirements and system) and design skills
  • Experience with performance testing, performance test tools, investigation and resolution

Responsibilities

  • Performs complex programming assignments requiring an advanced aptitude of established programming standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with Java and JavaScript.
  • Experience with Junit is preferred.
